It is the commitment of the Lake Butler Elementary School faculty and staff to create a classroom atmosphere that promotes learning. Teachers accomplish this by rewarding positive behavior and addressing negative behavior in a consistent and fair manner. Parents can assist in creating a positive learning environment at school by reviewing the following guidelines with their children:
· Do their best work at all times
· Obey the instructions of all teachers and staff
· Treat other students with respect
· Treat school property with respect
Students are not allowed to have alcohol, drugs, or tobacco in any form at school. In addition, students may not have in their possession knives or any other item that may be used as a weapon. For the protection of all children, school board policy states that any student who brings these items to school is subject to suspension from school.
All parents and students must read and comply with the Student Code of Conduct that is approved by the Union County School Board for all students. Lake Butler Elementary School is a “Drug-Free Zone.” We have a Zero-Tolerance policy.
Florida Statue 893.12 (3) establishes Drug-Free School Zones, which makes it illegal to sell, purchase, deliver or possess a controlled substance in, on, or within 100 feet of the real property
comprising a public or private elementary, middle, or secondary school. The distribution, use or possession of illicit drugs, alcohol and/or tobacco products on school property or at any school activity are wrong and harmful. Student Rights and Responsibilities and Code of Student Conduct are addressed in School Board Policy Section 5.20 B 1-3.
The faculty and staff of Lake Butler Elementary School are committed to maintaining a Safe and Drug Free School in order to ensure that our learning environment exemplifies the benefits of a drug-free lifestyle.
Florida Statue 230.23 (6) (d) 10, states, “Notice that any student who is determined to have brought a firearm, as defined in 18 U.S. C. ‘S. 921, to school, any school function, or on any school sponsored transportation will be expelled, without continuing educational services, from the student’s regular school for a period of not less than 1 full year and referred by criminal prosecution.
